Buggy Worlds Day 1

Monday, September 15th, 2008

day1_driversstand.jpgIn case you missed my blog, www.jconceptsracing.com, Jason and Paul left on Saturday for the trip to NC. Luckily not a bad journey from Sunny FL. We are just hoping there will not be any rain, as we Floridians, or East Coasters know – it is Hurricane Season.

So far so good. I won’t go in to too much detail now as I am posting this second hand but from very reliable sources…. and I know you are finding your own data sources. I saw over 1500 people signed on to LiveRC at 5 pm today and it was only Day 1, of practice.

I’ll let the results speak from themselves.

With JConcepts you will find photos that no one else has. and tires that no one else has ? Yes, that is true too.

World’s Eve ?

Some are already there, some are on their way, for me it is the Eve of the 1/8 scale Worlds. Jason leaves tomorrow.

I am so excited, not like a Christmas excitement, but still excited none-the-less. The biggest 1/8 scale buggy worlds….ever.  And boy will this be a race! Top drivers, top products, and on US soil, er clay.

This is starting to have a show-n-tell feel to it  – look what we have – look what they have. New tires, new wheels, new bodies, new everything – no holds barred.

This will be my 3rd Worlds, but my first nitro Worlds. I attended the Electric Worlds in Clearwater, you might remeber the debut of a phenom called the BJ4, and I also attended the Worlds in Italy in 2005, again I must mention the BJ4 W.E.

Perhaps Jason doesn’t need a 4 leaf clover or a lucky rabbit’s foot ? Perhaps its me he needs ?  :) So don’t worry I will be there! :)   Check back here often as we load our thoughts and stories of the NC IFMAR 1/8th Nitro Buggy Worlds here !

Where will RC Racing be in 50 years?

Thursday, September 11th, 2008

There is often talk in the RC community about the future of RC – future of racing – and general thoughts on how long people will be racing RC toy cars. I just ran across an interesting article today about the very beginnings of model car racing in Southern California. Before radio control, long before Team Associated, Tamiya, or Cox, there was tether car racing. These cars ranged in size from 10″ long to over 2′ long, and were able to achieve speeds near 200 mph in the 1940’s. The earliest records of anyone racing model cars in So. Cal was 1936 in Fresno.

I love old pictures like these. I look at those guys and try to figure out who was the ‘fast guy’ at those club races. Which guy was pissed because someone else had the dialed tires that day for the track conditions? I wonder if in 50 years the pictures from the ‘07 Roar Nat’s will be archived somewhere? Where will they be stored? On a server somewhere? In virtual reality?

All I know is I’ll be 80 years old, and I’ll be racing whatever it is we are racing then. Hopefully they will still use tires. Goosebumps are dialed.

They had magazines.  Apparently no websites or message boards?

The tracks -  Obviously with no steering, oval racing was popular. Drag racing a close second.

Tyrone, PA; circa 1947                   Fresno, CA, 1941                     Oakland, CA, 1952 – check out that groove.

Racers: I think the guy on
the left is Hodapp’s
grandfather.                                              Factory Team?                              Starter Box?

I say everyone wears
ties at the next worlds?

And naturally there were trophy girls. Nice – ….I think she worked at the bar near the track….

Politics or crap ?

Wednesday, September 3rd, 2008

Ok so the mud slinging has begun, in case there wasn’t enough already.

I will actually be out of the country on election day so if I don’t submit my ballot early I realize I have absolutely no say in the future of the nation’s presidency and electoral candidates.

I admit I need to read more and be more involved in some of the nation’s happenings. Most are too depressing to read, I can not solve the issues alone and I have my own things to worry about, just like everyone else.

But my latest feeling is that if I had a say in the campaign this year – I would say we START OVER !

Let’s scratch the present day options and go back to the drawing board completely.

The latest news, (the VP nom’s were released a few days ago), they are now finding the mud on the VP nominees, and today’s announcement concerns Sarah Palin’s teenage -unwed – daughter is preggers.  Serioulsy. I think she is 17.

How sad,  what we have come to be.

I will actually quote Lindsay Lohan here, She said, quote, “I think the real problem comes from the fact that we are taking the focus off of getting to know Sarah Palin and her political views, and what she can do to make our country a less destructive place.

“It’s distracting from the real issues, the real everyday problems that this country experiences.”

My other question is – if Sarh Palin were a man, a father, would it be a big deal if his daughter were pregnant at 17 ? or is it worse that a mother “let” her daugher get pregnant ?

I am not trying to get in to the mess and tell you who to vote for or even who I might vote for. Each party has their own issues, some of which are clearly obvious and don’t have to be discussed.

I just wonder what the future holds, or do we trust that the checks and balances will hold this country strong ? were the decisions set in place by our fore fathers great enough to help us through tims like this ?

We shall see.

and for a side bar – while not a good segue – it is an interesting story of how we as American’s see things and the “This will never happen to me syndrome” ……

MICHAEL JORDAN is in trouble with the American Cancer Society for playing in a celebrity softball game in Atlanta on Monday.

Their problem is that he had a cigar in his mouth THE ENTIRE GAME.
The former president of the ACS says, quote, “When high profile athletes publicly display unhealthful habits they can mislead young people to emulate their behavior.

“According to the American Cancer Society, tobacco use in this country is responsible for one-third of all cancers and remains the most preventable cause of death in our society.

“8.6 million Americans suffer from chronic smoking-related disease.  Since 1964 smoking has cause more than 12 million premature deaths in the U.S.”

No comment yet from Michael Jordan.
