Another Punishing Weekend for Ryan Maifield and JConcepts
Kicking off ’10 in style the CRCRC club creates a 2-week home to some of the world’s fastest drivers competing for that first win of the New Year at the Annual Winter Midwest Championships. JConcepts driver Ryan Maifield with his RC8T-CE won the 1/8th truck class and TQ’ed the 1/8th buggy class with JConcepts tires and accessories. Also in on the action for JConcepts and AE was Florida driver JR Mitch. With both drivers having recent success at the JConcepts Clash, just a month earlier it was business as usual for this AE powerhouse.
In the 1/8th buggy class Ryan chose the JConcepts Bar Codes in blue compound to tackle the field in qualifying and the Double Dees V2 tire for the 45 minute A-main. JR Mitch utilizing the same combination qualified 5th in a field of heavy-weight contenders and was a factor throughout the main events.
In the 1/8th truck division, Ryan Maifield put his RC8T-CE out front early in the A-main running on the Sevens tire in blue compound. Ryan, The ”Truggy Master” had it on 100% attack – mode for the entire race, finishing a lap ahead of the competition. JR Mitch was running quick and was up front early, also on the Sevens in blue compound. After 45 minutes of brutal action, Ryan cruised in for another well deserved win with JConcepts.

2010 CRCRC Midwest Midwinter Championships
Monday, January 25th, 2010Event- 2010 CRCRC Midwest Winter Champs
Race Reporter: JP Richards
At every start to the year one of the biggest electric offroad races of the year is held in Columbus, Ohio. Well this year it will probably be the biggest electric off-road race with over 430 entries. It is the CRCRC Midwest Midwinter Championships.
This race every year has the biggest offroad racers names in attendance such as Jared Tebo, Ryan Cavalieri, Dustin Evans, Matt Chambers, Dakotah Phend, Cody King, Jesse Robbers, and Steven Hartson.
I attended this race and ran Modified 2wd and 4wd. The race schedule was Thursday/Friday all day practice. They said that they would get through all 4 rounds of qualifying done on Saturday but that did not happen they only got through 3 and ran the 4th on Sunday with triple Amains to follow. It was qual point style qualifying with your best 2 out of 4 counting.
In 2wd qualifying was supper tight all weekend long. I blew out in round 1. But in round 2 I got my head screwed on straight with getting a 6 for the round. In round 3 I got a 5 for the round. In the 4th and final round I got a 2 only 5 seconds behind Jared Tebo. With my best 2 runs counting I would end up with a total of 7 points that would put me 6th on the gird. In A1 I did not do so well I finished 9th. A2 went better I raced the whole race with Ryan and Steven for 2nd place. After swapping spots many times I would end up with 4th in A2. In A3 I ran 3rd the whole race but on the last lap I made a mistake and it took the marshall a little time to get me but when he did I could not see my car because he was in my way. But that is just one of those racing deals I ended up 6th in A3.
I finished 7th overall which I was pretty happy with.
Here was the top 10:
1. Jared Tebo
2. Ryan Cavalieri
3. Dustin Evans
4. Steven Hartson
5. Matt Chambers
6. Jesse Robbers
7. JP Richards
8. Dakotah Phend
9. Cody King
10. Johnny LoGiudice
In 4wd I had a bad weekend. I broke out in the first 2 rounds of qualifying. Then in round 3 I got a 4 for the round. I just had a bad run in round 4. I dominated the C Main.
Another point of view from Dustin Richards
Well, its the beginning of 2010 and that means the CRCRC Electric Midwinter Midwest Champs in Columbus, Ohio. Why guys come from Dallas, LA, Louisiana, Florida, and other nice climates to Ohio with the snow and the rain is beyond me. However not only people from nice climates come to this race, but also drivers from Denver, Long Island, Buffalo, Wisconsin, Pennsylvania, and even Canada were in attendance.
The Midwinters is one of the biggest races of the year.
The format was 10AM to 9PM practice Thursday and Friday. They had scheduled 4 rounds on Sat but that did not work out so well. 4 rounds of qualifying in one day with 430 entries. WHAT WERE THEY THINKING? We raced from 8AM to 12PM and only got in 3 rounds in Saturday. We raced from 8AM to 10PM Sunday with 1 round of qualifying and the mains. The qualifying system used was qual points.
Qualifying went well for me on in truck and 4wd. In truck I my best counting 2 were two nines. In 4wd I had a 6. Going into Sunday I knew I needed a good run to make the main. I got a 9 for my best 2 counting a 6 and a 9.
Buggy did not work out so well at this event for me and I was seated in the C main after multiple breaks and just poor execution.
4wd I was 9th in the A Main with over 75 entries in this class.
Truck I was BQ, tied with 10th place but loosing the tie breaker.
In the Triple A Mains of 4wd I had 9-6-9 giving me a 9 overall. I was the only person in the A Main without a chassis ride. There were factory drivers in the B Main like Matt Chambers, Jessie Robbers, Brian Mellow, Al Horne, and more.
In the B Main of Mod Truck I finished 4th.
In the C Main it was a real show. I started 10th of 12 cars. I worked my way up to the lead. However there was a hard battle at the front. Trying to stay out front I proceeded to “saw off” the front left side. This left me with three wheels. However I was not done yet. I continued driving with the three wheels for the last 2 minutes and in the end I got passed by Griffin and Dunbar but held onto that third trophy spot. This C Main ended up being one of the most exciting races with people on their feet cheering.
All in all this was an event that people went away with sleep deprivation. However the fastest drivers in the world made it to the Midwest to do battle and that is what may make this race so popular.
I would like to thank JConcepts, The slick Gold Bar Codes were great and the entire team at JConcpets (Jason, Allison, and Betty) are great to work with.

Sunday, January 24th, 2010‘10 Colonel’s Classic Race Report
Friday, January 22nd, 2010
Driver: Tim Smith
Event: 2010 Colonel’s Classic
Date: 1-16-2010
Track: Phil Hurd Raceway, Savannah, GA
The 4th annual Colonel’s Classic was held at Phil Hurd Raceway in Savannah, GA and has quickly become the premier kickoff race in the southeast for each new year. The 2010 event was held on Jan 16th and Mother Nature wasn’t cooperating throughout the weekend.
Friday’s practice was very nice with dry weather which provided a great look at who had their race face on this weekend. Only one round of qualifying was completed before the rain came which pushed the remaining qualifier and mains to Sunday.
The Phil Hurd race crew was able to get the track back to running condition very quickly and qualifying resumed on Sunday, Tim Smith was able to put himself into the main qualifying 6th. At the start of the main Tim was able to put his Xray 808, Jconcepts equipped buggy to the lead on the opening lap. Around the 10 minute mark Alan Burton was able to make a charge for the lead, but Tim was able to quickly increase his gap to take the win with Shane Ogden in 2nd and Alan Burton finishin in 3rd.
Tim ran the new Jconcepts Subculture tire in blue compound which proved to be the dominate tire of the weekend.
Bar Codes win at Golden State Challenge

Over the weekend, the Golden State Electric Challenge took place in Lakeport California. I was victorious in 2 of the 3 mains in Truck Modified. A qualified 2nd. The main competitors in this class were Team Losi’s Phillip Atondo and J Concepts Driver Zach Rogers. I used Blue Bar Codes and Rulux in the front and rear of my RC10T4 to win A2 and A3 for the overall title. A video will be posted on http://www.lakeporthobbies.com soon. So far only A1 is up….I got 2nd in this main. A trophy shot is here:

Next up, I won the 4wd mod class with my Kyosho Lazer FS. I used Blue Bar Codes in the front and rear to qualify 3rd behind AE’s Cody Turner and Kyosho’s Tyler Vik. The main competition in this class was team Kyosho’s Tyler Vik, AE’s Chris Jarosz, AE’s Cody Turner, AE’s Kevin Jelich, and more. The A-1 race was a battle. The lead was swapped at least 6 times before I finally settled in and ran away with the final minute or so. In A2, Tyler Vik won. We battled for a minute or so before I made a mistake. I finished 2nd in A-2. In A-3, Cody Turner and Vik got out to the lead with me right behind them. Both cars collided going up the hill. I made a pass and pretty much led the other 6 mins plus.

Illuzion Slash 4×4 Manta Sneak Peek and Accesories
Monday, January 11th, 2010JR Mitch and Tony Pattishall win Hang Over Classic
Wednesday, January 6th, 2010
Racing with a Hang Over is never fun unless it is in Daytona Beach, FL. For the 5th year in a row the East Coast R/C Club hosted the annual Hang Over Classic. Although serious racers always put their best foot forward and maintain only the healthiest New Years rituals, the East Coast Club has been able to blend a unique element of the New Year with an annual race event.
JR Mitch, fresh off his solid performance at the JConcepts Clash went back to work in 2010 and picked up right where he left off. Utilizing the full compliment of JConcepts products JR managed to take TQ running the newly released Subcultures in blue compound. For the A-final event JR took a large lead early and looked to press his RC8b buggy to the limits. Subcultures proved to be the perfect choice for the wet / dry condition and provided an advantage throughout while finishing nearly 4 laps ahead of the competition.
Not to be forgotten, Tony Pattishall driving the Mugen MBX6-T looked superb in qualifying in the 1/8th truck class. Tony utilizing the proven Cross Hairs tires, Mono wheel and Illuzion body combination was the force in the A-final while a battle heated up early. In the end, Tony’s consistency paid off with crafty driving and top notch products Tony crossed the finish line a winner for his first win in 2010.
Congratulations to all the winners and the East Coast R/C Club on another great event.
