This past weekend during the 24th annual Eastern States Challenge held by Family Hobbies Raceway in Vineland, NJ, JConcepts drivers Mike Gay and Andy Castellini swept all 5 electric classes.

2wd mod buggy saw Mike TQ with Andy less than 1 second behind with their JC equipped FT B4.1’s. Mike won the main with Andy unfortunately having to retire early. Green Groovy front tires combined with the Illuzion Scoopless body + 6.5” rear wing provided the perfect balance of steering/bite to be fast and consistent.

Mike’s TQ run in 4wd mod buggy set a new track record, and he backed it up by dominating the main with his FT B44, outfitted with the Scoopless B44 body and Double Dees that made the car seem to be on rails.

Andy TQ’ed/won mod truck in convincing fashion with his FT T4.1, and also was dialed with his mod FT SC10 outfitted with SC Subculture tires, finishing off a 1/10 electric podium sweep!

The following day saw Andy TQ electric 1/8 buggy, with Mike qualifying a close 2nd. Using a triple A-main format, Andy cruised to the win in the 10 minute A1 main. A2 saw Mike retaliate with an equally fast run, giving both drivers 1 win each. A3 was set to be a fast showdown between teammates, with Andy coming out on top, and Mike finishing 2nd, both running Blue Double Dee V2 tires with profiled inserts in their RC8Be buggies.

Family Hobbies Raceway is one of the oldest (and still thriving!) off-road tracks in the country, having run organized off-road races since 1982. It is also home to the 1st ever ROAR 1/10 Off-road Nationals.

Ryan Maifield continues excellence, takes Modified Short Course with JConcepts.

Southern California is the hot-bed for R/C excitement, plush indoor race tracks and camaraderie. OCRC Raceway in Huntington, Beach has set a new standard in R/C and for many years has held the annual Surf City Classic. Normally reserved for a handful of professionals and locals alike, 2010 provided a new twist with a hefty bonus program that brought out some of the worlds finest racers from the United States.

JConcepts was well represented with many drivers racing for the glory in 2wd, 4wd, modified truck, Short Course and 1/8th electric. Ryan Maifield and Steven Hartson continuously ran at the front of the pack all weekend while utilizing the popular JConcepts Bar Codes. Holding TQ in 4wd modified for most the event Ryan chose the Gold Bar Codes on all four corners of his Associated B44 buggy. TQing the modified Short Course class was too easy as the Green compound Bar Codes gripped the track like no other during all 3 qualifiers.

For the main events things got especially interesting with single, extended A-main events. In the Short Course A-main, Ryan drove a consistent yet a playful race, having a little fun with the competition on his way to victory. Crossing the finish line in all smiles, Ryan enjoyed another brilliant day in SCT. With a drying track condition Ryan switched to Green Compound Double Dees for the A-main. Teammate Tanner Denney running the same combination finished in the respected 3rd place position. The combination of JConcepts Double Dees, Bar Codes, Rulux wheels and the Raptor body combined with the all new SC10 Factory Team proved to be too much all weekend.

Event: Super Cup – fall session – round 1
Date: August 28, 2010
Location: Treasure Coast Raceway – Port St. Lucie, FL
Race Reporter: JConcepts Racing Team

JR Mitch takes 3 modified classes, vintage class debuts and Stock buggy is all the rage.

It was hard to find a pit spot anywhere for Round 1 of the fall session of the Super Cup Series. 157 entries came out to support what has been a dynamic 2010 series and with a visit to Treasure Coast Speedway in Port St. Lucie Florida all racers were eager to show up to race at one of Florida’s finest Indoor tracks. Friday afternoon racers began to fill the building and practice began. The groove started to set-in toward the end of the day which meant the JC Bar Codes were the hot tire.

Friday evening several racers spent the night wrenching and getting their vehicles ready for Saturday morning while others visited the near-by bowling alley for additional competition and miscellaneous story telling. Wrenching and a good night’s sleep will go a long way.

Saturday morning things began with the new / old vintage class. Joe Sumasky, Josh Harris, Jeremy Harris, Ruffy Rios, Tim Kowal and Jeff Harris all made the first ever vintage Super Cup race exciting and memorable. Joe Sumasky took the win with Josh and Jeremy Harris finishing 2nd and 3rd. With Josh taking the TQ, the points should be tight all season between the leaders.

Stock buggy was the largest and one of the most competitive classes all weekend. Again it was Joe Sumasky coming out in front in qualifying but Mike Applegate was right there in the 2nd qualifying position. During the main event it was a fantastic race with Mike Applegate coming out on top by about 1 car length over Sumasky. Charles Parsons finished in 3rd, Scott Shearer in 4th and Jader Lopez in 5th.

Modified 2wd buggy was all JR Mitch in qualifying. After a lengthy 2wd retirement JR was prepped and ready with a brand new B4.1 and it showed in the second round of qualifying with a blistering run. Qualifying 2nd was Paul Wynn with Jason Ruona in 3rd. In the main event JR got a clean start and worked through traffic with patience. A mistake by Paul Wynn in the first few corners meant that Paul was playing catch-up along with Ruona. After a few laps to settle in Ruona made a move into second, with a slight charge there was briefly a challenge for the lead however it was not enough as JR held on at the finish line for a well deserved victory. Jason Ruona finished in the 2nd position with Paul Wynn in 3rd. The top 3 finishers were all riding on Bar Codes in blue compound topped off with an Illuzion Hi-Flow body and 6.5” rear wing.

Stock truck was on fire and heavily competitive all day. TQ Mike Applegate had his Losi XXX-TCR sitting on the pole position and looked poised for another victory. Super painter Roly Cuisine had other plans. With his X-Factory X-60, Roly made short work out of the start and took a commanding lead. Daimon Borkowicz was hot on the heals of victory but couldn’t stay completely clean which allowed “Double Dee” Dave Duncan to squeak by and into 2nd. Finishing order was Roly Cuisine 1st, Dave Duncan in 2nd and Daimon Borkowicz 3rd.

Zack Genova, the modified truck king of the last 2 Super Cup races was sitting out front in TQ position. Speedy Josh Harris qualified 2nd but was unable to race the main which meant smooth sailing for Zack. Dan Borkowicz in a Florida farewell run took 2nd with Chris “Fro” Mahlschnee rounding out the top 3. Zack Genova’s T4.1 was riding on Bar Codes all weekend and proved to be the best combination of forward-bite and side-bite in the modified class. Can some-one step-up to challenge Zack in Race 2?

Pro 2 stock was a relative quiet class in the Spring Session but things are beginning to heat-up once again for Fall. Charles Parsons was the class of the field all weekend in Pro 2 stock and with a 3rd place in the 2wd stock class; it didn’t take long for Charles to grab the lead in Pro 2 stock and check-out on the rest of the field. Mark Valeo, fresh off a trip to the ROAR off-road nationals finished in 2nd with Mike Pollack in 3rd. Watch for Pro 2 SCT to heat-up dramatically in the Fall Session.

Pro 4 Modified trucks are all about noise with a little beating and banging on the side. With another TQ, Pro 4 continues to be the class for Felix Law and the Slash 4×4. Starting on pole position Felix checked out at the start. Able to jump all the jumps with ease and a controllable style in the difficult turns Felix took a well deserved win. Hector Santana finished in 2nd with Orlando Camacho finishing in 3rd. Felix’s truck was equipped all day long with Bar Codes front and rear tires, Raptor body and Tense wheels.

The fastest vehicles on the track, the 4wd modified guys took the track for the A-main. A very popular class on the series, the 4wd modified guys are all business. Nobody was more business like all day than JR Mitch while taking the sought-after TQ. JR got a clean start but near the moguls made a small mistake and Ruona took the lead. On lap 2, a mistake by Ruona, near the back straight-away, gave the lead back to Mitch. Mitch stretched the lead while Paul Wynn and Ruona battled for 2nd. Finishing in 1st was JR Mitch with Paul Wynn in 2nd and Jason Ruona 3rd. JR’s B44 was riding on Bar Codes all weekend along with the all new Punisher B44 body.

In the last race of the day Pro 2 Modified was on the track and the grid was set. JR once again jumped to a huge lead with Felix Law in 2nd and Mike Applegate 3rd. The closest battle on the track was between 4th, 5th and 6th as the top 3 leaders distanced themselves from one another. In the end it was JR’s day with a big victory in the Short Course class to finish a brilliant day of driving. Finishing in 2nd was Felix Law with Mike Applegate rounding out the top 3. JR was running JConcepts Bar Codes on his SC10 all weekend, topped off with a Raptor body and Rulux wheels.

A huge thank you goes out to Treasure Coast Speedway, their crew and especially Chris “Fro” Mahlschnee for a great track, surface and atmosphere.

The first round of the Victorian State Series was held on Sunday August 29th at the Wodonga Radio Control Car Club, situated on the border town of Albury Wodonga, Australia.

Rain leading up to race day left the track very moist. Ray ran the new JConcepts Flip Outs on both his B4.1 and B44 and found they were perfect for the morning qualifiers. As the sun hit the track and things started to groove up, JConcepts Double Dees were the best choice and Ray ended up TQing 2wd and 4wd and finished the day winning both classes.

Ryan Maifield and JConcepts take 1st ever ROAR Short Course Open National Championship. JConcepts picks up 4 ROAR National titles, 3 via control tire and 1 via open performance.

The scene was fresh and exciting at the 2010 ROAR Off-Road Nationals. With many of the major teams putting in a push that hasn’t been seen in many years, competition and stakes were at an all-time high. With the introduction of Short Course and the steady popularity of 1/10th buggies and trucks, 305 entries assembled into Joliet, Illinois for the largest 1/10th Off-Road race of the year. With an agreed upon or control tire used in 6 of 8 classes, a level playing field was present for all participating drivers.

For JConcepts, it was a ROAR National Event to remember, for the first time, Short Course Open was an official class and the JConcepts boys came “loaded for bear”. With an assortment of the finest SCT products on the market; JConcepts, together with Ryan Maifield, Chad Due and the rest of the team wasted little time moving to the front of the pack. It was Wisconsin native Chad Due that struck first in the SCT class putting in an early TQ with his JConcepts equipped SC10 Factory Team. Round 3 and 4 TQ went to Ryan Maifield as he blistered the track setting the fastest time of the weekend and picking up the overall TQ in the process.

As main event time approached, Maifield locked in on the goal of victory and after a relatively easy A-1 victory things appeared to be moving along smoothly toward the championship. With a great start in A-2 Maifield pulled out to a huge lead and looked to lock-up the overall. Disaster struck with about a minute to go as a freak malfunction in the internal transmission sidelined Maifield and allowed Travis Amezcua and Jessie Robbers into the mix with a 1st and 2nd putting the pressure on Maifield for a victory in A-3.

At the tone in A-3 Maifield stretched a nice lead and locked into cruise control for roughly 4 minutes until Amezcua picked up the pace and moved into 2nd. Pressure from Amezcua forced Maifield to tighten his pace and maintain a steady cushion until the last-lap where Maifield picked his lines carefully and finished off A-3 in style and securing the 1st ever ROAR National Championship in the Open Short Course class. Ryan’s Factory Team SC10 was completed decked out in JConcepts gear all weekend. JConcepts Raptor SCT-R body, Rulux wheels, SC Double Dees front tires and SC Bar Codes rear tires topped off the championship machine.

JConcepts tires were chosen as control tires in the 2wd and SCT stock classes. The Groovy and Double Dees combination was a massive success for Kenny Farris in the 2wd stock class as he powered his way to TQ and a win in the 1st and 2nd A-main to take the stock national title. Cory Crosley enjoyed similar success in the SCT stock class with the Subcultures SCT tire. Cory was the star of the SCT Stock Class all weekend by first taking the TQ and then A-main victory. Both drivers relied on the performance and consistency of JConcepts all weekend.

In the Open modified truck class JConcepts blue compound Bar Codes were chosen as the agreed tire between major manufacturers. With a vast assortment of conditions the Bar Codes proved to be a great choice in the modified truck class as TQ Dustin Evans looked flawless in qualifying. The track evolved for a slightly different condition in the A-mains and Jared Tebo proved too much for the competition with a win in A-1 and A-2 and the fastest overall main event time in any of the 2wd classes, Jared and Dustin were on rails all weekend.

Debuting performance -

In a much anticipated release, JConcepts debuted the all-new Punisher B4.1 body in the 2wd modified class with Ryan Maifield taking the 2nd qualifying position and ultimately settling for 4th overall after a stellar A-2 victory. Look for the Punisher B4.1 body release very soon.
