The first round of the Victorian State Series was held on Sunday August 29th at the Wodonga Radio Control Car Club, situated on the border town of Albury Wodonga, Australia.
Rain leading up to race day left the track very moist. Ray ran the new JConcepts Flip Outs on both his B4.1 and B44 and found they were perfect for the morning qualifiers. As the sun hit the track and things started to groove up, JConcepts Double Dees were the best choice and Ray ended up TQing 2wd and 4wd and finished the day winning both classes.
JConcepts Team Driver, Jörn Neumann wins round 1 of the German 1/8 Off Road Buggy Nationals running the new JConcepts Punisher body, Illuzion 1/8 buggy wing and JConcepts Tires and Wheels.
Jörn ran the Barcodes in Orange compound and was very impressed with the “insane forward traction” and absolutely no tire wear after the 40 minute main.
Event: ROAR Electric Off-Road Nationals Date: August 20-22, 2010 Location: Leisure Hours Raceway – Joliet, IL Race Reporter: JConcepts Racing Team
Ryan Maifield and JConcepts take 1st ever ROAR Short Course Open National Championship. JConcepts picks up 4 ROAR National titles, 3 via control tire and 1 via open performance.
The scene was fresh and exciting at the 2010 ROAR Off-Road Nationals. With many of the major teams putting in a push that hasn’t been seen in many years, competition and stakes were at an all-time high. With the introduction of Short Course and the steady popularity of 1/10th buggies and trucks, 305 entries assembled into Joliet, Illinois for the largest 1/10th Off-Road race of the year. With an agreed upon or control tire used in 6 of 8 classes, a level playing field was present for all participating drivers.
For JConcepts, it was a ROAR National Event to remember, for the first time, Short Course Open was an official class and the JConcepts boys came “loaded for bear”. With an assortment of the finest SCT products on the market; JConcepts, together with Ryan Maifield, Chad Due and the rest of the team wasted little time moving to the front of the pack. It was Wisconsin native Chad Due that struck first in the SCT class putting in an early TQ with his JConcepts equipped SC10 Factory Team. Round 3 and 4 TQ went to Ryan Maifield as he blistered the track setting the fastest time of the weekend and picking up the overall TQ in the process.
As main event time approached, Maifield locked in on the goal of victory and after a relatively easy A-1 victory things appeared to be moving along smoothly toward the championship. With a great start in A-2 Maifield pulled out to a huge lead and looked to lock-up the overall. Disaster struck with about a minute to go as a freak malfunction in the internal transmission sidelined Maifield and allowed Travis Amezcua and Jessie Robbers into the mix with a 1st and 2nd putting the pressure on Maifield for a victory in A-3.
At the tone in A-3 Maifield stretched a nice lead and locked into cruise control for roughly 4 minutes until Amezcua picked up the pace and moved into 2nd. Pressure from Amezcua forced Maifield to tighten his pace and maintain a steady cushion until the last-lap where Maifield picked his lines carefully and finished off A-3 in style and securing the 1st ever ROAR National Championship in the Open Short Course class. Ryan’s Factory Team SC10 was completed decked out in JConcepts gear all weekend. JConcepts Raptor SCT-R body, Rulux wheels, SC Double Dees front tires and SC Bar Codes rear tires topped off the championship machine.
JConcepts tires were chosen as control tires in the 2wd and SCT stock classes. The Groovy and Double Dees combination was a massive success for Kenny Farris in the 2wd stock class as he powered his way to TQ and a win in the 1st and 2nd A-main to take the stock national title. Cory Crosley enjoyed similar success in the SCT stock class with the Subcultures SCT tire. Cory was the star of the SCT Stock Class all weekend by first taking the TQ and then A-main victory. Both drivers relied on the performance and consistency of JConcepts all weekend.
In the Open modified truck class JConcepts blue compound Bar Codes were chosen as the agreed tire between major manufacturers. With a vast assortment of conditions the Bar Codes proved to be a great choice in the modified truck class as TQ Dustin Evans looked flawless in qualifying. The track evolved for a slightly different condition in the A-mains and Jared Tebo proved too much for the competition with a win in A-1 and A-2 and the fastest overall main event time in any of the 2wd classes, Jared and Dustin were on rails all weekend.
Debuting performance -
In a much anticipated release, JConcepts debuted the all-new Punisher B4.1 body in the 2wd modified class with Ryan Maifield taking the 2nd qualifying position and ultimately settling for 4th overall after a stellar A-2 victory. Look for the Punisher B4.1 body release very soon.

Event: Wiregrass Indoor Nationals Date: August 6-8, 2010 Location: Indoor Arena – Ozark, Alabama Race Reporter: JConcepts Racing Team
Barry Pettit and Dan Borkowicz Punish the competition with JConcepts at 2nd annual Wiregrass Nationals.
This past weekend the annual Wiregrass Nationals were held in Ozark, Alabama. The temperature was hot but the heavy showers on Friday and Saturday provided some temporary relief from the heat. The metal roof over the track protected the track from the elements, but there was no protecting the surface from the thrashing of the cars and trucks throughout the day.
The packed surface quickly gave way to the underlying sandy base providing some true off road racing with major dips, craters, and ruts. Drivers picked their racing lines carefully and were prepared to change as the race progressed. The Wiregrass crew with race announcer Carlton Eppes did a fantastic job of running the show and everything ran smoothly and timely. (more…)
Event: 2010 EFRA 1:8 Off Road European Championship Date: July 6-10 2010 Location: Just outside Guarda in Portugal
We opened up our blog of the Euros after day one and unfortunately
thereafter we got sucked into the hard work and long days of the event
to not be able to continue with our daily reports.
Having now got home, I am able to reflect on what was a successful event for Team JConcepts…

Classic RC Raceway is one of the best all-around facilities in Ohio, with a small hobby store/pro shop, an indoor clay track, and a fairly large, super-smooth outdoor track. They’re actually working on adding a separate 1/8th scale track this year so that the big machines don’t tear up the surface for the 10th scales. Racing at Classic last year was a blast; even though the surface was smooth without a lot of dust, the JConcepts Goosebumps was the fast tire. However, it always seemed like a bigger pin than you really wanted to run. For this race I was armed with some new JConcepts Flip Outs for both buggy and truck.

Ryan’s RC8T-CE topped off with JConcepts accessories qualified 1st in the 1/8th truck class. Ryan utilized the Punisher body, Illuzion wing and JConcepts Sevens truck tire to dominate qualifying. In the 1/8th buggy class Ryan had to settle for the 3rd qualifying position while tuning for the A-main. JR Mitch continues his hot winning streak in Florida with another solid TQ and win at round # 3 of the recent Florida State R/C Pro Series held in Rotonda West, Florida. JR had a solid TQ run in round 2 while blistering the track with Subcultures in blue compound. JConcepts driver Jared Scott qualified in the 2nd position with Double Dees V2 in blue compound.
As the Florida sun set-in with temperatures in the 90’s and extensive rubber laid to the newly rebuilt track, JR quickly readied a set of Subcultures in medium yellow compound for the hot and grooved up surface. As the 45 minute A-main was completed JR crossed the finished line with more than a lap lead on the nearest competitor. Subcultures in yellow compound were indeed the right choice as JR once again punished the competition.
Event: Super Cup round 5
Date: May 22, 2010
Location: Treasure Coast Raceway – Port St. Lucie, FL
Race Reporter: JConcepts Racing Team
With a reported weather storm on the radar, a quick change of itinerary from Coral Springs to Treasure Coast Raceway made round 5 of the Super Cup even more exciting. With this being a make-up and additional race to the 2010 series, drivers were hyped and ready for action on the technical Treasure Coast track. Huge thanks to both the Coral Springs club and Treasure Coast Speedway for their constant effort and support of the racers in Florida.
Setup and practice was a snap and racers piled in and got ready for qualifying. The track started a little on the wet side but it quickly became grooved and wheelies became normality. Can everyone say Bar Codes?
JR Mitch got us started off in the A-main in the electric 1/8th E-buggy class. JR outdistanced the field with a heavy dose of trigger and traction courtesy of the Blue compound Bar Codes his RC8b-E was on rails setting fast lap for the entire event on numerous occasions. Finishing in the 2nd position was Dan Borkowicz, with Eric Varney in 3rd.
The vintage vehicles hit the track once again on the Super Cup and Jeremy Harris meant business in the 2wd stock class. With a slow start Jeremy had a close battle early on but the strength of the tried and true RC10 never relented. Choosing the brand new Flip Outs tire in Green compound Jeremy’s RC10 was stuck to the track taking the win. Consistency and speed was the name of the game for Jader Lopez who finished in the 2nd position, while Dan Borkowicz rounded out the top 3. (more…)
ZOO City raceway and McHobbies in Asheboro, NC hosted the 3rd round of the North Carolina Championship Series and it was the hottest day of racing thus far. With temps hovering around 90 degrees and no rain for the past couple weeks, the ZOO City track crew and Asheboro fire dept gave the track a primo treatment and dose of water on Friday to ensure great racing conditions. The track was butter smooth and held moisture for most of the day. As it dried, a groove formed and provided consistent racing action all day. For example, all 3 rounds of TQ’s for the Expert Buggy class was within 2 seconds each round, mistakes had to be minimal and corner speed was key. The race had 117 entries and through the pounding of 3 heats and mains, the track held together very well from start to finish.
In the Expert Buggy Class, JConcepts Team Driver Brandon Melton came out of the gate with two early TQ’s of round 1 and round 2, securing the overall TQ using qual points. In each of these rounds, Brandon equipped his RC8B with JConcepts Double Dee V2 in blue compound. JConcepts Team Driver Barry Pettit was also fast and in contention running Double Dee V2’s just missing TQ in the first round by .3 secs. The main event would have Melton stretch out a couple second lead on Pettit after a first lap bobble, and it would remain this way until the first round of pit stops. Melton would flame out in the pits which would let Pettit pull out about a 20 second lead. Barry stayed on pace and would finish strong and go on to win the main event. Melton would recover and come back to a 2nd place finish, giving JConcepts a 1,2 finish in Expert buggy.
In Expert Truggy Barry Pettit running Sevens in Blue Compound would convert an overall TQ into a win over Josh Hollifield in 2nd and John McGinty in 3rd. Josh was able to pace Barry early on but experience would take over and Pettit was able to pull away after a couple bobbles from Hollifield. Mike Webb was a factor early on making his truggy debut. Webb and Hollifield had and excellent race going for the 2 and 3 spot, but an early retirement from Webb would let Hollifield secure 2nd.
It was a great round and the series and racing action looks to carry it’s momentum into Cape Fear Raceway near Raleigh, NC. Cape Fear is the largest and most challenging track on the circuit, so it will be a sure test of man and machine to see who comes out on top.
